For Dal Boiling

  • 1/2 bowl Toor dal
  • 4-5 bowl of Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Oil

For Dal Fry

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seed
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida/Hing powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Red Chili powder
  • Tomato-Chili-Ginger Paste
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp Garam masala
  • Jaggery as per taste
  • Lemon juice as per taste
  • Coriander leaves for Garnishing
  • Ghee
  • Peanuts

For Dhokli

  • 1/4 bowl Gram flour
  • 1/2 bowl of Wheat flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Carom seeds
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Water as required
  • Turmeric powder

For Tadka/Tempering

  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 Dry Red Chili
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder


Recipe for Dal Dhokli

For boiling Dal

First of all, rinse the 1/2 bowl of Toor dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.

Then drain the water and add the Toor dal to a pressure cooker along with 4-5 bowls of Water, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp of Oil, and salt to taste.

Cook for 2 whistles or until the dal is completely cooked and mushy.

For making Dhokli

For this, combine 1/4 bowl of Gram flour, 1/2 bowl of wheat flour, 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder, 1/2 tsp Carom seeds, and 1 tbsp of Oil.

Then put the turmeric powder and Salt according to taste and mix properly.

After that, add enough water to form a smooth dough. Knead the dough well and divide it into small portions.

Roll out each portion of the dough into a thin circle or rectangle shape. Then cut it into your desired shape.



For making Dal Fry

Firstly, heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan on medium flame.

Then put 1/2 tsp Cumin seed, 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp Asafoetida/Hing powder, and Curry leaves and splutter them.

After that, put 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp Red Chili powder, and Tomato-Chili-Ginger Paste. Mix it well.

Cover the pan and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes.

Then put 1/4 tsp garam masala, salt to taste, and boiled Dal. Mix it properly.

After that, add jaggery and lemon juice as per your taste and mix it.

When the dal starts boiling, then you have to put Dhokli pieces in it. Cooked while stirring.

Cover the pan and cook for 7 to 8 minutes until Dhokli is cooked and soft.

Dal Dhokli is ready. If you want, you can eat it. But we will make it more tasty now.

In a separate pan, heat ghee and add peanuts. Fry them well.

Then you put fried peanuts in Dal Dhokli.



For preparing Tadka/Tempering

For this, in a pan, heat 1 tbsp Ghee and put 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds,1 Dry Red Chili, Curry leaves, and 1/4 tsp Red chili powder.

Cook for a few seconds until the spices release their aroma and flavors.

Then pour the Tadka/Tempering on Dal Dhokli.

Delicious Dal Dhokli is ready. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Tips for making a perfect Dal Dhokli

Be careful not to overcook the lentil soup, as it can become too thick and lose its flavor.

Adjust the spice level to your liking, by adding more or less of the spices used in the recipe.
