Ingredients of Amla Candy:
- 1 kg Amla (Indian Gooseberry)
- 400-500 grams jaggery
- 2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp hing
- 1 tsp carom seeds
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tsp black salt
- 2-3 pieces of sakar/mishri
How To Make Amla Candy with Jagery
First of all, wash the amla thoroughly under running water.
Then steam the amla on high flame for about 10 to 15 minutes until they turn slightly tender. Ensure they are not overly soft.
After that, let the steamed amla cool down.
Once cooled, slice them into small pieces.
Now take an air tight jar. Make a layer of jaggery in it and make a layer of amla pieces on it.
In this way, fill the whole jar with a layer of jaggery and amla.
Then cover the jar properly and keep it for 2 to 3 days.
After 2 to 3 days the jaggery will melt and the amla will absorb the jaggery. This will make the Amla sweet.
Strain the Amla and keep it aside.
Do not throw away the jaggery syrup (liquid) that comes out. You can drink it by adding spices to it. It will taste very delicious.
Keep the pieces of Amla properly on a plate and keep them in sunlight to dry for 2 to 3 days. Allow excess moisture to evaporate.
Now, add 2 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1/2 tsp hing, 1 tsp carom seeds, 1 tsp black pepper powder, 1 tsp black salt, and 2-3 pieces of sakar/Mishri. Grind and make a powder.
Sprinkle the powder on amla and mix to coat evenly.
Your homemade Amla candy is ready.
